Diabetes Fundraising
Thanks to all the fabulous people who have supported my efforts, Brenda Novak for the Cure has managed to raise $2.6 million for research so far!
When my youngest son was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes while still in kindergarten, and I learned about the terrible side effects he would likely face in his lifetime, I knew I had to do something. That’s when I began my personal crusade to fight back. I’m sure you know (or, like me, maybe even love) someone who has diabetes. The statistics on this terrible disease are alarming — and clearly establish a challenge for all of us. My fondest wish is to see a cure in my lifetime.
I started out running an annual online auction for diabetes research every May. I did that for an entire decade. Then, for an additional two years, I curated and sold digital boxed sets of novels and/or novellas from some of today’s most popular authors.
I’m currently taking some time off my fundraising, however. My writing deadlines have become too intensive to continue at this time, but I’m hoping to get back to my crusade soon. The bulk of the money I’ve raised has been donated to the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami to further their cure-focused research, but in 2016 I donated the money to Boston University to assist Dr. Ed Damiano (who also has a son with Type 1) finish engineering the world’s first artificial pancreas, a life-saving device which will greatly assist in keeping those who suffer from diabetes healthy until that elusive biological cure can be found.
If you are interested in donating money to this cause, I will happily pass it through to Ed at Boston University. You can send money via Paypal to BrendaNovaksOnlineAuction@gmail.com, or you can send a check made out to Brenda Novak’s Annual Online Auction to:
