2009 Auction

Agent of the Year (this is a two-way tie)

Kristin Nelson
Kristin headed up her own category this year, which means she gathered many items to put up for auction—and she raised $3540.

Kimberly Whalen
My agent told me she’d do whatever I needed her to, which was amazing enough that she’d be so supportive. She put up two critiques and a critique plus a dinner, AND she let me sell one of her critiques for $1 so that those without the money to pay for such an opportunity would have a chance. Thank you, Kim! She raised nearly $2000 just with her two items. It would’ve been closer to three if I’d auctioned her third read off as I did the others. Not only did she donate three reads, she got six other agents at Trident Media Group involved, which brought in an additional $3440.

Editor of the Year (another two-way tie)

Evil Editor
This guy is about as far from evil as a person can get. He’s always one of the first to step up to the plate and to offer more than one item. He does a full manuscript read which always goes for a lot. This year he raised close to $4000.

Brittiany Koren
When this editor heard what I was doing, she said she’d donate one critique for each year of my son’s age. Now THAT’S generous.

Publisher of the Year

Harlequin
Because Harlequin is MY publisher, I know most of the editors and they never cease to amaze me with their willingness to help out. This year Harlequin is responsible for bringing in  $12,653.

Authors of the Year:

Okay, this is always really tough because I want to name every author who contributed. But I’m trying to keep this short so that someone might actually be willing to read it. LOL With that in mind, these are the standouts for this year. These women either gathered a whole page of offerings, donated an item spectacular enough that I could use it for publicity or helped drive traffic to the auction site (Christine Feehan single-handedly drove hundreds to the auction!).

Publicity and Support Awards

These women helped out on so many fronts. Many of them provided Easter Eggs for me to give away. They donated items to put up for auction and gathered even more from their friends. They came on and bid, bid, bid. They talked about the fundraiser to their friends and included it in their blogs. They’re all amazing and deserve tons of good karma.

Bookseller of the Year

Bradley Simkins at Booklovers Bookstore
Bradley did an entire category by himself and included such amazing offerings as an autographed copy of THE HOST, BRISINGR and THE CLAN OF THE CAVEBEAR.

Best Offering by an RWA Chapter

The Emerald City Experience!
The Emerald City Writers' Conference (ECWC) is held October 9-11, 2009 at the Bellevue Hilton, Bellevue, Washington. This auction item included:

  • Your ECWC conference fee paid! ($209-229 value)
  • 2 nights hotel in a standard room paid ( $248 estimated value)
  • Plus: Coffee with author Jane Porter during conference and a chance to discuss your latest project or ask questions about agents, editors and the current market.
  • A private appointment with your choice of either an agent or editor who is attending the conference (appointments are usually group, so this is a fabulous opportunity for a one-on-one with your choice of agent or editor in attendance).
  • Plus: $50 cash to use at the Saturday night bookfair or dinner

I thought this was such a fabulous offering I salivated over it myself. LOL

Bidder of the Year

This was really a joint effort so I couldn’t name just one person. Laura and Mary were particularly diligent in bidding every day (Laura won the grand prize), but these other ladies (and one gent!) sure did their part.

Assistants of the Year

Anna Stewart
Jeannie Ruesch

I could NOT have pulled this auction off without the help of these two talented and dedicated people. Thank you Anna & Jeannie! And thanks to my family for putting up with me being unable to think or talk about anything else for months!
